Domestic Generator Considerations

A domestic generator isn't as simple to install as other backup power solutions, like a UPS system. If you are planning on having one installed you need to consider the following things:

Location: Generators have to be in a location away from window, doors and water sources, with space on both sides. It needs to be near the fuel source and where the electrical hookup is.
Planning permission: Having a generator installed requires planning permission. This takes into account not only where you are planning on having the generator but also noise and pollution.
Maintenance: Generators need to regularly maintained, at least once a year. This could be sooner depending on how often it is running. This means there needs to be space clear around the generator for this to take place. It is also advisable to have a maintence contract to ensure these are done correctly and on scehdule.
Other restrictions: Some housing estates have their own regulations and restrictions, so your generator will have to be complaint with these as well.
